Frequently Asked Questions

1

How can I know if the DPC model is right for me?

Dr. Baker offers free meet and greet appointments for potential members. This is a chance to ask questions about the practice and the DPC model. It is not a free consultation for ongoing medical concerns.

2

What are the advantages of membership?

Members have short wait times, longer appointment times, price transparency, and direct access to Dr. Baker through her private cell phone.  In office testing, such as strep tests, urine tests, glucose, and EKGs, are included in the price of membership. Members also have access to wholesale pricing on out of office labs and medications. Members also have access to free power of attorney and consultation and discounted estate planning through a local law practice.

3

Why should I pay a monthly fee if I already have insurance?

Health insurance is not the same as health care and Direct Primary Care is not a substitute for insurance. In the fee for service model, patients pay a co-pay and often an office visit charge in addition. Any labs done in the office or sent out are also added to your cost. At Sanctuary Family Health, there are no co-pays or charges for a visit. In office labs are free and other blood work is approximately 90% discounted when billed through Sanctuary Family Health. Most members will pay less annually for membership than the cost of their deductible.

4

Can I be seen if I am not a member?

Direct Primary Care is based on a strong doctor-patient relationship so you will need to be a member to be seen for any medical care.

5

Do I need an appointment to be seen?

Yes. To be able to allow generous time for each visit, all appointments need to be scheduled. For acute or urgent needs, members can be scheduled on the same day or next day.

6

What about hospitalization?

If you require hospitalization, one of the hospitalists will provide care during your hospital stay. Dr. Baker no longer provides hospital care but any out patient follow up hospital care is provided as a part of membership.

7

What about women’s health care?

Dr. Baker performs pelvic exams and Pap smears. The pathology lab cost of the Pap smear is greatly discounted. Dr. Baker also provides contraceptive counseling and prescriptions and post-menopausal hormone therapy.

8

Can Dr. Baker refer to specialists?

Yes. If you have insurance and wish to use a specialist in network, you may need prior authorization. Sanctuary Family Health can assist you in this. If you are without insurance or have a high-deductible plan, Dr. Baker has agreements with local specialists to offer cash prices to our members.

9

How can I contact Dr. Baker after hours?

Members are given Dr. Baker’s private cell phone number upon enrollment.  For urgent needs, members can call or text.  Members can also email for less urgent matters.

10

What insurance does Sanctuary Family Health accept?

Dr. Baker does not accept any insurance plans. DPC is not a form of insurance but a form of health care delivery. Dr. Baker encourages her members to have insurance for catastrophic medical expenses or care outside of her office.

11

Can I use my Health Savings Account to pay my membership fee?

Current law allows HSA funds to pay for medications, labs, imaging studies, co-payments, vision and dental care. It is legally unclear if these funds can be used to DPC membership. Before doing so, please consult a tax expert.

12

If I cancel my membership, can I join again?

Members can cancel membership at any time, for any reason. If the member wishes to re-enroll, Dr. Baker will determine if there is adequate space to accommodate additional members at that time. There is a one-time, non-refundable re-enrollment fee of $200. Dr. Baker cannot accommodate re-enrollment more than one time.

13

How do I enroll as a patient?

Signing up is simple and can be done online by clicking here. If you have any issues with your registration, please call our office at 847-987-9808 and we will be happy to help. Once you are a registered patient, you will have access to our Patient Hub which allows you to view upcoming appointments, send messages to Dr. Baker and staff, review test results and more.

14

What if  only my children will be members?

In that case, we do need one parent or adult to be registered in the Patient Hub medical records for communication and billing purposes. When you sign up your children, please reach out to us via email at sanctuaryfamilyhealth@gmail.com so we can add the adult information.

15

If I enroll now, will I be able to enroll other family members later?

A number of families have indicated they plan to enroll some members now and wait to enroll other members at a later date. Please note, that if the practice reaches capacity, you will not be able to become a patient, regardless if others in your family have previously enrolled. If you feel strongly about who in the family you wish to ultimately be enrolled, you are encouraged to enroll the family together, not in stages.
